The new book by Prof. Dr. Andreas Michalsen
More and more people worldwide suffer from joint diseases. Knee, hip, finger, and shoulder osteoarthritis have become widespread, and rheumatic inflammation is also on the rise. Conventional medicine has made numerous advances in the treatment of joint diseases, but mostly only in the areas of surgery, which is often unnecessary, and medications, which often have side effects.
Far too little attention and use are given to the diverse methods of naturopathy for osteoarthritis, rheumatism, and joint pain, which often arise as a result of our modern lifestyle: lack of exercise, diet, stress, and obesity. The spectrum of naturopathic treatment methods is surprisingly broad: from therapeutic fasting, yoga, special joint exercise techniques, herbal therapy, and Kneipp therapy to acupuncture, Ayurveda, leeches, and cupping.
Andreas Michalsen, chief physician for naturopathy at the Immanuel Hospital Berlin, professor at the Charité Berlin and co-founder of Salufast, describes the advantages and disadvantages of conventional medical and naturopathic treatment and recommends the best naturopathic therapies for joint diseases in detailed overviews.
